2. What is an antacid?

A type of medicine that is alkaline in nature and works by neutralising excess acid.

3. Is Gaviscon suitable for use during pregnancy?

Many products in the Gaviscon range are suitable to use during pregnancy and whilst breastfeeding. These include Gaviscon Original and Gaviscon Double Action in both liquid and tablet format . This is because they act physically rather than entering the bloodstream. 

 

Medicines can affect the unborn baby. Always talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking any medicine in pregnancy.

4. Is Gaviscon suitable for children?

Gaviscon Original and Gaviscon Double Action is suitable for children over the age of 12. For children between 6 to 12 years, Gaviscon Original will be more suitable. However, for children below 6 years old, any medication should be given only on medical advice.

5. Can you suffer from both heartburn and indigestion?

Yes, you can suffer from both symptoms. In fact 73% of people suffer from heartburn and indigestion interchangeably. Gaviscon Double Action is recommended to treat both of these symptoms.

6. What is Gastro-esophageal reflux?

Movement of stomach acid back up into the esophagus.

7. What is Gastro-esophageal reflux disease (GERD)?

It is a condition caused by gastro-esophageal reflux. Symptoms include those of heartburn and regurgitation. It is often associated with weakening of the muscle which controls entry of food into the stomach.
